Complex project management
Safiya Carrillo is a problem solver helping global organizations tackle complex development challenges via strategic advocacy, partnerships, and communications. She brings a systems-level approach to initiatives spanning digital innovation, public health, climate, human rights, and economic development.
Most recently, Safiya served as Dalberg's regional lead for its media practice in the Americas based in New York, after supporting the maturation of the practice while living in Copenhagen, Denmark. She designed strategies and led initiatives for clients such as Wellcome Trust, the World Bank, the African Circular Economy Alliance, the Hewlett Foundation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and various UN organizations (e.g., UNICEF, UNEP, UNCCD, ITU). Her work centered on aligning stakeholders around shared goals through directing strategic communications, partnership building, high-level convenings and rigorous research, data collection and analysis for policy advocacy. She also co-founded the Re:solve Global Health platform, where she directed partnership recruitment and management while developing campaigns (with partners such as the World Health Organization, Merck, and Medtronic LABS) that raised awareness of the solutions and challenges associated with non-communicable diseases.
Earlier in her career, Safiya built philanthropic partnerships at Catchafire and managed nonprofit and foundation relationships at Arabella Advisors. She also served in the United States Peace Corps in Paraguay, leading economic development initiatives with small business owners, artisans and artists. While there, she founded a platform to increase appreciation for artisan crafts within Paraguay, and taught a social entrepreneurship-focused business class to high school students. She has also worked with businesses such as Gilt Groupe, Lacoste and Condé Nast to fulfill marketing and communications needs.
As a multicultural native New Yorker with global experience who is now based in Paris, Safiya connects European, American, and Global South perspectives to build more inclusive and effective approaches to social impact and sustainability.
Safiya holds a BA in Government and International Relations and a Certificate in Marketing Strategy from Cornell University.
